About the Position: This position is located with the Directorate of Emergency Services, Fire Department on Aberdeen Proving Ground in Harford, MD.

This position is included under the provisions of Special Retirement Coverage (SRC) and may have both a maximum entry age and a mandatory retirement date.

In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience

Current Federal Employees:
I have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service which includes 1) Supervising work of subordinate firefighters in controlling and extinguishing fires, emergency medical and HAZMAT situations; 2) Scheduling and monitoring work assignments of others; AND 3) Planning and directing the fire prevention and protection training programs and operations. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).

External Applicants: I have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-10 grade level in the Federal service which includes 1) Planning and directing the operations of subordinate firefighters; 2) Performing administrative and management tasks; AND 3) Developing and implementing firefighting training activities such as, emergency medical response, hazardous material response, and fire suppression. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-10).

Selective Placement Factors: This position requires you to possess and maintain at the time of application the following DoD, Pro-Board, or IFSAC Firefighter Certification levels: Fire Officer III, Fire Instructor II, Fire Inspector II, HAZMAT Incident Commander and Airport Firefighter. This position requires you to possess and maintain Emergency Medical Technician-Basic Certification issued by the State of Maryland or National Registry Emergency Medical Technician-Basic (NREMT-B).

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-09).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone -- no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
