This vacancy is for a GS-1515-14, Operations Research Analyst located in the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Coast Guard, OFFICE OF PROGRAM ANALYSIS AND EVALUATION -CG-PAE CG-8 in WASHINGTON, District of Columbia.Requirements:
Basic Requirements: This position has a positive Education Requirement in addition to at least one year of Specialized Experience in order to be found minimally qualified. Transcripts must be submitted with your application package. You MUST meet the following requirements
EDUCATION: Degree in operations research; or at least 24 semester hours in a combination of operations research, mathematics, probability, statistics, mathematical logic, science, or subject-matter courses requiring substantial competence in college-level mathematics or statistics. At least 3 of the 24 semester hours must have been in calculus .
Applicants should have sufficient knowledge of applied mathematics to understand and use the fundamental concepts and techniques of operations research methods of analysis.
Courses acceptable for qualifying for operations research positions may have been taken in departments other than Operations Research, e.g., Engineering (usually Industrial Engineering), Science, Economics, Mathematics, Statistics, or Management Science.
ANDTo qualify at the GS-14 grade level, your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-13 grade level in the federal sector. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. Examples of specialized experience include performing the following types of tasks on a regular basis.
- Mastery of Scientific Principles - Working with principles and theories applicable to operations research, as well as to classical and modern higher mathematics and statistics sufficient to originate and develop new mathematical and statistical methods as well as knowledge of recent mathematical and statistical advances germane to operations research.
- Computer Modeling and Simulation - comprehensive knowledge of computer applications including modeling and simulation, analytic software, and presentation software sufficient to analyze and better understand the workforce dynamics.
- Program Analysis - Using extensive operations research skills and knowledge advises or assists other OR analysts to develop models/analyses to respond to specific workforce issues.
- Military Command Structure - Understanding the military command structure, missions, programs, and organizational relationships within the Organization and Command as well as a thorough knowledge of quantitative and qualitative methods and techniques to manage, plan, coordinate, integrate, and implement organization initiatives.
