The primary purpose of this position is to install, maintain, repair, and modify small and large/complex heating (includes heating boilers and single and multiple fuel power boilers), ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration (HVAC/R) systems including; critical computer room/equipment air conditioning, humidifying, dehumidifying air cleaning, filtering, balancing

Requirements:

In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C.

QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-5300 - Industrial Equipment Maintenance Group. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

The screen out element for this position is ability to do the work of a HEATING VENTILATION AIR CONDITIONING EQUIPMENT MECHANIC without more than normal supervision.

JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
1. Knowledge of the principles and theories of air conditioning and refrigeration and properties of refrigerants and the ability to test, calibrate, troubleshoot, overhaul, repair, and install complete HVAC, electronic, and pneumatic systems, and fiber optic communications equipment and the ability to repair those systems in the office and field (as they relate to the DDC systems).
2. Knowledge of mechanical, electromechanical, and pneumatic principles, High Pressure Nitrogen Generation, and a working knowledge of electrical and electronic block diagrams, wiring diagrams, and schematics to understand the construction and operation of the industrial controls and troubleshoot, to maintain, repair and overhaul power heating systems and associated auxiliary equipment which use natural gas, liquid propane or fuel oil or a combination of fuels for steam or hot water production and distribution.
3. Skill in troubleshooting electronic problems on large projects and applying test procedures; and in the use of hand and power tools of the electronics trade to include a variety of electronic, electrical, or electromechanical test and measurement equipment and knowledgeable of the makeup, operation, and installation of electrical circuits and controls to be able to repair/replace circuits and controls to heating systems.
4. Knowledge of safety, environmental, and security regulations, practices, and procedures.
5. Ability to read, understand, and apply schematics, blueprints, and building diagrams and complicated manufacturers published technical manuals relating to a variety of HVAC/R controls, consisting of electrical, electronic, and pneumatic.
6. Skill in the use of measuring instruments such as gauges, meters, recorders, analog displays, and computer generated data to determine operational status and make necessary adjustments.

Physical Effort:
The employee lifts, carries, and handles equipment up to 50 pounds unassisted and over 50 pounds with assistance. Works from ladders, scaffolding platforms, or cramped areas where equipment, parts, or tools are hard to reach. Work requires frequent stooping, stretching, bending, kneeling, and working in tiring, uncomfortable positions for long periods. In addition, work involves frequent movement and maneuvering of large, heavy equipment using hoists, holders, and pulleys as required.

Working Conditions:
The employee works indoors and outdoors, on elevated structures, and in cramped areas which requires employee to operate various mechanical lifts and work platforms to access mechanical systems. Subject to discomfort from face masks or other protective devices when there is a possibility of exposure to toxic refrigerants, noxious gases, fumes, or acids. Subject to possible burns from refrigerants. Works near moving parts of equipment and machinery, energized electrical circuits, sharp metal edges, loud noises, and toxic fumes, which could cause cuts,

PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
