Description:

This position is a Social Services Assistant , GS- 0186-5 working in Fallon, Nevada for the Stillwater National Wildlife Refuge Complex.

This position is responsible for coordinating and leading the station's Youth Conservation Corps Program. It assigns duties on a rotating basis to ensure each enrollee gains a broad range of natural resource experience. Additionally, it operates a federally-owned or leased vehicle to transport enrollees and equipment.

Requirements:

Only experience and education obtained by 03/03/2026 will be considered.

In order to qualify for this position you must possess both the Minimum Qualification.

Minimum Qualification [GS-05]
  1. One year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility equivalent to grade GS-04 in the Federal service. Examples of qualifying Specialized Experience include: group leader in a community or residential recreation or training program, youth summer camp counselor, job skills trainer, work that demonstrated the ability to lead and train members of a job crew, group activities leader in the Armed Services, unit leader for a dormitory group in a residential facility, assistant to associate staff engaged in work of a social services nature such as drug/alcohol addiction, or other work directly related to the duties of the position. OR
  2. Successfully completed a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree that (a) included at least 24 semester hours in any combination of subjects directly related to the work of the position; (b) included a major in social behavior, human behavior, or health care or (c) was supplemented by experience in activities that afforded the opportunity to acquire and demonstrate the skills required by the position. OR
  3. A combination of education and experience as described in 1 and 2 above which together equals 100% of the requirement
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
