Description:

The Program Support Assistant has a primary responsibility to provide day-to-day administrative and clerical support in the overall operations of Nursing Service. The incumbent assists the ADPCS, EA to ADPCS, Nursing Service Chiefs, and Nurse Managers in compiling info and data into final reports, provides administrative support for performance improvement initiatives, creates meeting documents, attends meetings, maintains accurate files, and communicates information effectively.

You may qualify based on your experience as described below:
  • Specialized Experience: Have at least one (1) full year of specialized experience that equipped you with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the Program Support Assistant at the developmental level, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-4) in the Federal service. Specialized experience is experience where you were responsible for providing clerical, technical, or customer support; receiving and referring phone calls; communicating and treating customers in a courteous, tactful and respectful manner while providing consistent information according to established policies and procedures; and using computer programs to prepare documents. Note: Experience must be fully documented on your resume and must include job title, duties, month and year start/end dates AND hour worked per week.

  • Education: 4 years above high school

OR
  • Combination: Equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience may be used to meet total experience requirements.


Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note : A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.

Physical Requirements: Primarily sedentary work performed in an office setting. Involves sitting for extended periods while using computers and office equipment. Light physical effort such as walking short distances, standing during meetings or filing, and lifting or carrying light items. No strenuous physical activity or special physical abilities required.
