Description:

The typical season for this position is April - September but can be variable during these months due to weather conditions, project needs, or funding. The anticipated entry on duty is April 2026.

All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement 03/06/2026 unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:
Special knowledge or expertise concerning the park's or preserve's natural and/or cultural resources and the management thereof is required. Local knowledge of the resources and the typical conditions that affect the work to be accomplished will be applied in the performance of duties.

Areas considered "near" Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park are the Municipality of Skagway Borough, which includes the communities of Skagway, Dyea, Haines, Klukwan, Gustavus, and Juneau.

The following are the competencies identified for this position. Applicants are not required to address these competencies in a separate document but are encouraged to include in their resumes experience related to these competencies:
  1. Ability to interpret instructions, specification, etc. to work from sketches, basic drawings, verbal directions, and work from established instructions provided.
  2. Ability to use a variety of common hand tools and light power tools (e.g., circular saws, electric drills, pneumatic nail guns, wrenches, etc.).
  3. Knowledge of simple and common trade practices such as, performing, simple carpentry related to framing, siding, flooring, roofing, trim, etc., simple plumbing and ability to complete non-technical and routine maintenance and repair of grounds, exterior surfaces, buildings, etc.
  4. Ability to operate and maintain tools, vehicles and equipment such as, light trucks, forklift, riding lawn mower, paint brushes/rollers, hand power tools, scaffold, etc.
  5. Ability to use measuring instruments to make simple measurements using tape measure, square, or similar.
