Who May Apply: US CitizensIn order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience for GS-07: Applicants must clearly identify in their resumes that they possess one year of specialized experience at the next lower grade level (GS-06) or equivalent. Specialized experience is defined as experience that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled, including: Measuring vital signs of applicants/patients (i.e., taking blood pressure, pulse, respiration readings); Collecting specimens (i.e., blood, urine, tissue) from lab or directly from patient; Cleaning and/or sterilizing medical equipment; Performing laboratory tests and examinations (chemical, microbiologic, hematologic and blood banking; Analyzing results of medical tests; Electronic Health Record familiarity (MHS Genesis).
The OPM Qualification Standard provides the following examples: (a) Technical medical laboratory support work such as performing laboratory tests and examinations (chemical, microbiologic, hematologic and blood banking) and preparing reports of findings or (b) technical support work in a closely related field, e.g., biological laboratory technician work, that required application of the methods and techniques for the position to be filled. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you may qualify if your education meets the definitions below:
Education Substitution for GS-07: Successful completion of one full year of graduate education in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work of the position such as Medical Technology/Technician, Medical Assistant, Nursing, Emergency Medical Technician, or Paramedic. One year of full-time graduate education is considered to be the number of credit hours that the school attended has determined to represent 1 year of full-time study. If that information cannot be obtained from the school, 18 semester hours should be considered as satisfying the 1 year of full-time study requirement. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts).
