This vacancy is being filled via the Direct-Hire Authority (DHA) for a Mathematical Statistician position in multiple directorates at the U.S. Census Bureau Headquarters in Suitland, Maryland . The Census Bureau is accessible from the Metro Rail Green Line - Suitland Station.This Job Announcement may be used to fill other Math Statistician, GS-1529-11/12, FPL GS-12 positions within the Census Bureau in the same geographical location with the same qualifications and specialized experience.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Education Requirement:
1. A Degree that included 24 semester hours of mathematics and statistics, of which at least 12 semester hours were in the mathematics and 6 semester hours were in statistics
OR
2. A combination of education and experience -- courses as shown above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. The experience should have included a full range of professional statistical work such as (a) sampling, (b) collecting, computing, and analyzing statistical data, and (c) applying known statistical techniques to data such as measurement of central tendency, dispersion, skewness, sampling error, simple and multiple correlation, analysis of variance, and tests of significance.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
For the GS-11
Specialized Experience: For the GS-11 , you must have one year of experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-09 in the Federal service. Experience for this position includes: Using statistical methods to conduct statistical analyses; preparing technical reports and professional papers on social/economic or demographic survey data; establishing survey specifications and methodology; AND documenting analyses and conclusions in written and oral reports.
OR
Education: 3 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of specialized experience (less than one year, which includes: Using statistical methods to conduct statistical analyses; preparing technical reports and professional papers on social/economic or demographic survey data; establishing survey specifications and methodology; AND documenting analyses and conclusions in written and oral reports) and directly related graduate education (beyond 2 years of graduate education), that when combined equals 100% of the qualification requirement. Note: Only graduate education in excess of two years (generally 36 semester hours) may be used in this calculation.
For the GS-12
Specialized Experience: For the GS-12 , you must have one year of experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-11 in the Federal service. Experience for this position includes: Using statistical methods to conduct statistical analyses; preparing technical reports and professional papers on social/economic or demographic survey data; establishing survey specifications and methodology; documenting analyses and conclusions in written and oral reports; developing solutions to statistical problems; establishing new statistical and analytical methodologies; AND leading teams to complete projects.

Education: Education cannot be substituted for experience.
