This vacancy is for a GS - 1801 - 13, Marine Inspector (SVO) located in the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Coast Guard, SECTOR VIRGINIA INSPECTIONS DIVISION in PORTSMOUTH, Virginia.

Requirements:

To qualify at the GS- 13 grade level, your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 grade level in the federal sector. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. Examples of specialized experience include performing the following types of tasks on a regular basis.

  • Leading and training other personnel on conducting vessel inspections focused on navigation, intra-vessel communications and alarms, lifesaving, firefighting, and pollution prevention systems.
  • Reading, interpreting, and applying International Maritime Organization (IMO) regulations (SOLAS, ISM, MARPOL, Etc.) and U.S. Code of Federal Regulation (CFR).
  • Utilizing the Marine Information Technologies for Safety and Law Enforcement (MISLE) system and conducting vessel inspections as a Journeyman Marine Inspector (JMI) or Advanced Journeyman Marine Inspector (AJMI). Attainment of at least one "Major" qualification, such as Machinery Inspector or Hull Inspector, is required.
  • Acting as a verifying officer for previously attained marine inspector qualifications, serving as a board member on marine inspector qualification boards, and implementing and/or supporting the Marine Inspector Performance Support Architecture (MIPSA).
