Position is located in Mesa Verde National Park, in the Facility Mgmt Division

This position is to installs, maintains, tests, troubleshoots, upgrades, repairs, and calibrates a variety of utility systems that require fully developed or journey level skills in various utility related trades such as electrical equipment repair, plumbing, wastewater treatment operation and water treatment operation.

As a condition of employment for accepting this position, you will be required to serve a 1 YEAR PROBATIONARY PERIOD during which your fitness and whether your continued employment advances the public interest will be evaluated.

This PROBATIONARY period is an extension of the appointment process and therefore requires the agency to determine if continued employment would advance the public interest, meet the organization goals and mission of the agency, and/or otherwise promote the efficiency of the service. In determining if your employment advances the public interest, the agency will consider:
  • your performance and conduct;
  • the needs and interests of the agency;
  • whether your continued employment would advance organizational goals of the agency or the Government; and
  • whether your continued employment would advance the efficiency of the Federal service.
Under applicable law, the employment of an individual serving a probationary or trial period automatically terminates when that period ends unless the agency affirmatively certifies, in writing, that the individual's employment should continue and that their appointment should be finalized. In the absence of agency action to affirmatively certify continued employment beyond the probationary or trial period, such appointments are terminated.

Upon completion of your PROBATIONARY PERIOD your employment will be terminated unless you receive certification, in writing, that your continued employment advances the public interest.

QUALIFICATIONS

In order to qualify, you must meet the eligibility and qualifications requirements as defined below by the closing date of the announcement. For more information on the qualifications for this position, visit the Office of Personnel Management's Federal Wage System Qualification Standards.

The incumbent works under closer than normal supervision at the trainee level performing assignments designed to provide the competencies, skills, and experience required to perform the more complex work at the journey man level. The work increases in difficulty, complexity, and responsibility as the incumbent gains experience and demonstrates a full comprehension of the target level position. As a trainee, this position may be eligible for non-competitive promotion to the target position upon meeting the following requirements: (1) The incumbent demonstrates the ability to perform at the target grade level; (2) Higher-level work exists at the target grade level; (3) Increased responsibilities are assigned; (4) The supervisor recommends promotion; and (5) the incumbent completes all required training and conditions of employment. Consequently, promotion is not guaranteed. As a trainee, the incumbent must perform work under the direct supervision and oversight of a journey level position.

To be eligible for this position, you must meet the following Selective Placement Factors :

All levels: Upon the closing date of the announcement, a valid State Driver's License and the ability to maintain such license is required to perform the duties of the position.

WG-7:
Must have upon closing date of announcement and obtain/maintain the following:
  • Colorado or Equivalent Class D Wastewater Treatment Certificate and obtain and maintain the Class C Wastewater Treatment Cert within 30 months of EOD
  • Class 1 Water Distribution Certificate and obtain and maintain the Class 2 Certificate within 30 months of EOD
  • Class D Water Treatment Certificate and obtain and maintain Class C Certificate within 30 months of EOD
  • Class 1 Wastewater Collections Certificate and obtain and maintain Class 2 Certificate within 30 months of EOD
  • Backflow Prevention Assembly Tester Certificate

WG-9: Must have upon closing date of announcement and maintain the following:
  • Colorado or Equivalent Class C Wastewater Treatment Certificate
  • Class 2 Water Distribution Certificate
  • Class C Water Treatment Certificate

  • Backflow Prevention Assembly Tester Certificate

In addition to the Selective Placement Factors, to be qualified for this position, you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors:
  • Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision - WG-7/9 (SCREEN OUT)
  • Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc.
  • Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic)
  • Use of Measuring Instruments

  • Knowledge of Materials

  • Ability to Follow Directions in a Shop
  • Dexterity and Safety
  • Ability to Work as a Member of a Team
