Other Duties/ Responsibilities
- Provides leadership and guidance to the department in the absence of the regular supervisor. Oversee daily operations, offer direction to team members, and ensure tasks are completed effectively and efficiently.
- Monitors and manages incoming orders, ensuring accurate logging, processing, and timely completion.
- Collaborates with team members to allocate tasks and ensure workload distribution.
- Responsible for providing training for Communication Technicians, ensuring they understand the campus layout, cable pathways, and safety protocols.
Required Work Experience
- Five to seven years of relevant experience and a minimum of three years of experience as a communications technician in the Senate or equivalent position that provides the additional required special skills and knowledge.
Required Special Skills/ Knowledge
- As part of our hiring process, we may conduct a skills assessment to better understand an applicant’s proficiency in key areas relevant to the role.
- Comprehensive knowledge of the Senate campus layout and cable infrastructure.
Desired Qualifications
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work in confined spaces.
- Ability to climb and use ladders.
- BISCI certifications is an asset but not a requirement.
- Ability to occasionally lift items (up to 50lbs).
- Excel and Visio knowledge are a plus.
Working Conditions
- Since this position requires onsite presence in support of the U.S. Senate when in session, this position requires the employee to be available and prepared to work during a lapse in appropriations, in inclement weather, on holidays, and during late night, overnight, and weekend sessions. In the context of government furloughs, this position is considered excepted.
- This position directly supports essential services of the U.S. Senate. As such, this position requires the employee be available and prepared to work during a lapse in appropriations, in inclement weather, on holidays, weekends, and during late nights to ensure essential services to the Senate continue without interruption. - Heavy lifting (carrying of items more than 50 pounds).
- Work requires frequent physical effort walking, bending, crawling, and standing for long durations.
- Work requires the employee to be around high-voltage equipment or hot lights.
- Working on ladders, scaffolding, or stages.
- Working in confined spaces (bending and crawling).
- Work requires operation of powered industrial trucks (like forklift, pallet jacks, scissor lift etc.).
- Work requires employee to wearing uniforms (or gloves, or other protective equipment besides a respirator).
