This vacancy is for a GS-0963-6/7, Mariner Credentialing Specialist located in the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Coast Guard, REGIONAL EXAM CENTER-TOLEDO in TOLEDO, Ohio.Requirements:
To qualify at the GS- 07 grade level, your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-06 grade level in the federal sector. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. Examples of specialized experience include performing the following types of tasks on a regular basis.
- Performing the initial review and processing of applications for various Coast Guard merchant mariner credentials, including deck and engine licenses, STCW endorsements, and certificates of registry
- Responding to oral and written inquiries from the public and/or governmental agencies through office visits, telephone calls, electronic mail, and written correspondence
- Drafting routine correspondence for a supervisor's signature regarding merchant mariner credentialing requirements using standard computer word-processing software
- Applying a thorough knowledge of Federal Regulations (such as Title 46 CFR), statutes, and policies governing the issuance of U.S. Merchant Mariner's credentials to correctly and efficiently process applications
To qualify at the GS- 06 grade level, your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-05 grade level in the federal sector. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. Examples of specialized experience include performing the following types of tasks on a regular basis.
- Responding to inquiries from the public and/or government agencies through various channels like phone, email, and written correspondence to provide information and resolve issues related to credentialing
- Using standard computer software to draft routine correspondence
- Using data entry systems, such as the Merchant Mariner Licensing and Documentation (MMLD) system, to accurately record information
- Applying state or federal laws, regulations, and policies
NOTE: Education cannot be substituted for experience at this grade level.
