As a supervisor/manager, the selectee for this position will be eligible to receive a Manager Performance Incentive (MPI) provided eligibility requirements noted in agency policy are met. The MPI is an annual lump-sum incentive payment that considers agency performance, the manager's individual performance, and available funding.This position serves as a Front-Line Manager within the Safety Management, Analytics and Systems Integration Division, Safety Management Branch, AFS-940.
Requirements:
General Requirements for All Positions:
1. Not more than two separate incidents involving Federal aviation regulations violations in the last 5 years;
2. Valid State driver's license;
3. Fluency in the English language;
4. No chemical dependencies or drug abuse that could interfere with job performance; and
5. High school diploma or equivalent.
Medical Requirements for All Positions:
Applicants must be physically able to perform the duties of the Aviation Safety Inspector position in a safe and efficient manner, with or without a reasonable accommodation. The minimum medical requirements include the following requirements:
- Have good distant vision in each eye and be able to read, without strain, printed materials the size of typewritten characters (glasses and contact lenses permitted);
- Have the ability to hear the conversational voice (hearing aid permitted); and
- Not have any physical condition that would cause them to be a hazard to themselves or others that would interfere with their ability to fly as passengers in a variety of aircraft.
In addition, applicants for positions that require participation in the operation of the aircraft must:
- Possess a valid second – class medical certificate in accordance with FAA regulations; and
- Pass recurrent medical examinations as prescribed by the FAA.
Applicants not requiring valid second-class medical certificates who are tentatively selected will be required to:
- Provide documentation from a board-certified physician certifying that they meet the minimal medical requirements; or
- Individuals who do not meet the minimum medical requirements but who are otherwise qualified will receive an individualized assessment to determine whether they can perform the essential functions of the position.

To qualify for this position, you must demonstrate in your application that you possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to FV-I/FG-13. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. Specialized experience includes: advanced technical experience at the FV-I/FG-13 level in any of the following specialties: Operations, Avionics, Maintenance, Aircraft Dispatch, Cabin Safety, Rotorcraft- Helicopter or Flight Oversight that reflects experience with and practical application of Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs), policies, standards and procedures as they relate to Flight Standards certification and surveillance programs with emphasis on 14 CFR Part 121, 135, 145.
Significant experience and practical application of the Safety Assurance System (SAS) business process, System Safety and ability to apply policies, standards and procedures as they relate to Continued Oversight of Safety (COS) with an emphasis on Safety Management System. Demonstrate evaluation and application of Safety Management Systems (SMS), Risk-Based Decision Making (RBDM) at the system level to improve safety.
Significant experience in developing and delivering complex technical subjects such as SAS and/or SMS to a wide range of internal and/or external audiences.

Expert knowledge of and extensive experience overseeing a certificate holder with a Safety Management System (SMS) and ensuring the certificate holder's effective utilization of SMS; utilizing the Safety Automation System (SAS) to track, monitor, and evaluate the certificate holder. Knowledge and experience in overseeing a certificate holder that participates in voluntary programs, such as Aviation Safety Action Program (ASAP) or Voluntary Disclosure Reporting Program (VDRP). Please explain and provide examples.
Recency of experience is waived for employees currently in the 1825 Series.
