This position is located in the Business Office for the Veteran Transportation Service (VTS) at the James J. Peters, VA Medical Center in Bronx, NY. The work includes the operation of gasoline, diesel, or electronic powered wheeled vehicles to haul cargo and fuel, transport passengers, patients, or to tow or recover equipment.Requirements:
LICENSE REQUIREMENT: You must possess a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with passenger endorsement. Applicants who do not possess the required license with appropriate endorsement are ineligible for further consideration. Possession of this license must be reflected on your resume to receive credit for your response. DO NOT upload a picture of your driver's license with your application materials; if selected for interview you will be asked to provide a copy of the license at that time.PHYSICAL EFFORT: The employee exerts moderate physical effort in operating, turning, backing, controlling, and coupling vehicles which carry heavy loads and a large number of people. Considerable effort may be required to change tires and take limited emergency repairs. Operators frequently handle objects weighing up to 20 pounds and occasionally handling of objects weighing over 50 pounds.
WORK CONDITIONS: Vehicles are operated in all types of traffic and weather conditions on public road and highways and there is exposure to the danger of serious acids. The employee drives in heavy traffic and at highway speeds over complicated road and interchange system. As determined by facility needs, the Motor Vehicle Operator will work on irregular hours of duty such as 6:00am to 2:30pm, 8:00am to 4:30pm, and 11:30am to 8:00pm.
