This position is in the Supply Chain Management Service at Edward Hines Jr. VA Hospital (578) - a level 1a Complexity VHA Facility. The primary purpose of this position is to ensure that supplies and materials are distributed to all areas serviced by SCM.Requirements:
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 02/11/2026.Time-In-Grade Requirement : Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-07 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-06. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade.
You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below:
- Specialized Experience: Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to:
- Ability to analyze and resolve difficult issues and problems and to plan effectively and render equitable and reliable decisions.
- Must have a thorough knowledge of inventory practices to include receiving, distributing, issuing, organizing, labeling, storing, and rotating processed instruments and supplies.
- In-depth knowledge of inventory management principles, procedures, and concepts are necessary to manage a facility-wide inventory. Must have extensive in-depth knowledge of the entire computerized inventory control system and how it relates to other services within the VA Medical Center.
- Extensive knowledge of all requirements for special handling instructions for the safeguarding of unique supplies and special purpose items within the Laboratory, Research, and Specialty Medicine and Surgical areas including patient specific items requiring exacting levels care in handling to ensure the highest level of safeguarding against damage, loss, or delay in delivery.
- Expert knowledge of all data management systems in order to be able to reconcile complex supply orders received in multiple shipments against a single PO by conducting comprehensive and thorough research into material transactions.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Note : A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.
Physical Requirements: The work requires standing and walking during the entire workday, and frequent reaching, bending and lifting of supply packages (occasionally weighing as much as 50 pounds). Work requires pushing loaded carts of medical supplies (weighing in excess of 100+ pounds). With proper assistance, moves heavier items weighing over 40 pounds. May be required to operate a motor vehicle.
