MACHINIST

Description:

You will serve as a MACHINIST in the Mechanical Shop (Code 930), Production Resources Department Manager (Code 901), Production Resources Department (Code 900) of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD.

Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO DO THE WORK OF THE POSITION WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISOION

• Ability to set up CNC machines and operate a variety of machine tools and to debug programs developed by higher-graded workers to perform complex machining operations.
• Ability to initiate action to repair including partial or complete disassembly, inspection, preparation of condition reports, repair, re-assembly and testing.
• Ability to use shop mathematics, operations and procedures to determine needed dimensions, mark/locate surfaces and angles, establish reference points, and troubleshoot faulty assemblies/components to identify problems.
• Ability planning and laying out work from blueprints, work sheets, and drawings (including those with missing/incorrect information).
• Ability determining work procedures, selecting tools/equipment/attachments, choosing raw stock type/size, sequencing operations, and establishing speeds/feeds needed to meet requirements.
• Ability working from technical work documents in the form of PCI's, drawings and blueprints.
• Ability using machine tools for milling, grinding, machining, facing, boring, and drilling along with the use of various portable machines.
