Organizational Location: This position is with the Department of Homeland Security, within U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Office of Field Operations (OFO), Los Angeles, CA, Los Angeles International Airport (LAX).Requirements:
You qualify for the GS 07 grade level if you possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as:- Compiling, organizing, and comparing information and documentation related to office administration, such as preparing reports, tracking correspondence, and maintaining records to support efficient office operations.
- Participating in conferences and meetings by maintaining accurate attendee lists, documenting discussion points, and following up on issues or problems being addressed to ensure timely resolution and continuity of operations.
- Scheduling appointments for staff and management, preparing routine correspondence, and reviewing documents to ensure correct grammar, punctuation, and adherence to established formats and guidelines.
- Receiving and distributing incoming mail and administrative material, determining requirements for personal reply, and assisting with routine office communications.
- Utilizing basic office automation software (e.g., word processing, spreadsheets) to prepare, edit, and format documents, charts, and reports for management review.
- Screening incoming calls and visitors, exercising judgment to refer them to the appropriate staff member or office, and forwarding only those calls or visitors requiring the manager's immediate attention, thereby ensuring effective time management and prioritization for senior leadership.
- Coordinating and attending internal meetings related to labor and employee relations matters, such as grievances, unfair labor practices, proposed and final disciplinary/adverse actions, Equal Employment Opportunity complaints, and appeals to the Merit Systems Protection Board; documenting proceedings, preparing related correspondence, and maintaining confidentiality of sensitive information.
- Managing the flow of sensitive management referrals and correspondence, setting suspense dates, and ensuring timely follow-up and resolution of issues in coordination with other managers and staff.
- Assisting in the development and implementation of administrative procedures and office practices to improve efficiency, including recommending changes based on analysis of current processes.
- Conducting research to gather and analyze information on administrative issues, policies, or procedures, and preparing summaries or recommendations for management consideration.

Residency: There is a residency requirement for all applicants not currently employed by CBP. Individuals are required to have physically resided in the United States or its protectorates (as declared under international law) for at least three of the last five years. If you do not meet the residency requirement and you have been physically located in a foreign location for more than two of the last five years, you may request an exception to determine if you are eligible for a residency waiver by meeting one or more of the following conditions:
- Working for the U.S. Government as a federal civilian or as a member of the military
- A dependent who was authorized to accompany a federal civilian or member of the military who was working for the U.S. government
- Participation in a study abroad program sponsored by a U.S. affiliated college or university
- Working as a contractor, intern, consultant or volunteer supporting the U.S. government
