his vacancy is for a GS-1801-12 Commercial Fishing Vessel Safety Examiner, located in the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Coast Guard, SECTOR PUGET SOUND INSPECTIONS DIVISION in SEATTLE, Washington.

Requirements:



To qualify at the GS-12 grade level, your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 grade level in the federal sector. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. Examples of specialized experience include performing the following types of tasks on a regular basis:

  • Ensuring commercial fishing vessels comply with safety standards and regulations for various vessel types and sizes; performing technical reviews of commercial fishing vessels to determine compliance with federal and international standards vessel registration, licensing and crew certifications.
  • Ensuring hull, machinery, and dry dock inspection items are operating properly and in full compliance with applicable standards; conducting virtual inspections by utilizing technology for remote checks.
  • Maintaining relationships with stakeholders to promote acceptance and understanding of fishing vessel safety laws, regulations, and standards; advising on and ensuring life-saving equipment, fire safety and emergency systems are functional.
  • Conducting dock-side safety exams; evaluating crew competency during onboard emergency drills; providing required safety equipment training, explaining how to maintain items such as fire extinguishers, flares, personal flotation devices, emergency position-indicating radio beacons.
