Description:

This vacancy is for a GS-0081-8, Firefighter (Intermediate Life Support) located in the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Coast Guard, BASE KODIAK FIRE SAFETY DIVISION -FF in KODIAK, Alaska.

Requirements:

To qualify at the GS- 08 grade level, your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 grade level in the federal sector. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. Examples of specialized experience include performing the following types of tasks on a regular basis.

  • Controlling or extinguishing fires as a member of an organized military, industrial, volunteer, or governmental fire department or brigade;
  • Rescue operations;
  • Detecting, reduction, or elimination of potential fire hazards;
  • Operation of fire communications equipment;
  • Controlling hazardous materials incidents and/or
  • Developing, implementing, or providing training in fire protection and prevention.

Certifications Required for applicant consideration:

  • International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC) certification or equivalent Firefighter I & II
  • Current Alaska EMT-3, Alaska AEMT, National Registry EMT-Advanced, or verified reciprocal EMS certifications of an equal or higher level

Driver/Operator Pumper

Driver/Operator ARFF

Driver/Operator Aerial

HazMat Awareness

HazMat Operations

Fire Officer I

Fire Instructor I

Fire Inspector I

NOTE: Applicants who apply holding National EMT-Advanced or Non-Alaska EMS certification may be required to attend a bridging course after hiring to meet job performance requirements.

NOTE: All claimed Firefighting and Emergency Medical Service certifications MUST display numbered seals and date of completion.

NOTE: Education cannot be substituted for experience at this grade level.
