You will serve as a RIGGER in the RIGGING BRANCH, RIGGING AND OPERATIONS DIVISION, LIFTING AND HANDLING DEPARTMENT of PORTSMOUTH NAVAL SHIPYARD.Requirements:

- Ability to make difficult load routing judgements by considering size, shape, and location of object, availability and strength of overhead structure, surface conditions, obstacles, and surrounding openings.
- Ability to determine exact placements of items such as padeyes, beam clamps, and chain falls used to support and balance load along the route.
- Ability to have thorough knowledge of knots and hitches and be able to splice rope, cable, and fabricate various types of ship rigging and weight handling gear.
- Ability to determine weights, stresses, strengths, and mechanical advantage.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, sketches, drawings, and work orders.
