The position serves as a Program Support Assistant, located in the Fisher House, Lt. Col. Luke Weathers, Jr. VA Medical Center, Memphis, TN. The position is assigned to the Fisher House Service and reports to the Fisher House Manager.Requirements:
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 02/03/2026.Time-In-Grade Requirement : Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-7 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-5. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.
You may qualify based on your experience as described below:
- Specialized Experience: GS-7 - SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Do you possess one (1) full year of specialized experience in the Federal service equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-5 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization?
- Specialized experience is defined as, but not limited to:
- Knowledge of the scheduling process and be able to make minor adjustments to printers, scanners, fax machines, and other routinely used office equipment.
- Skillful with oral communications as well as interpersonal relations.
- Knowledge and skill in operating within a network of personal computers and other related equipment such as shared multifunction devises and printers.
- Knowledge of office automation programs such as word processing, PowerPoint, email, calendar management, Human Resources databases, and spreadsheets.
- Ability to communicate effectively, tactfully, and diplomatically with all stakeholders through personal contact, e-mail and on the telephone.
- Ability to resolve conflicts based upon a thorough understanding of regulations, policies, and procedures, as well as the intent of each.
EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards .
SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Note : A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.
Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Regular and recurring work is mostly sedentary involving sitting at a desk. The incumbent works with a computer screen and keyboard. Some physical effort such as standing, walking, bending, lifting (up to 40 pounds) or prolonged sitting may be required. Physical exertions including stretching, reaching, and pulling or pushing carts occurs when assisting with inventories or activities involving retrieving items from shelves and cabinets.
