This vacancy is for a GS - 2101 - 12, Course Evaluator (Deck) located in the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Coast Guard, NMC MARINER COURSE APPROVALS BRANCH in MARTINSBURG, West Virginia.

Requirements:

NOTE: THIS ANNOUNCEMENT IS OPEN FOR A PERIOD OF 90 DAYS. WE WILL REVIEW APPLICANTS EVERY 30 DAYS. CUT-OFF DATES ARE AS FOLLOWS: Feb 22 , Mar 22, April 21, 2026.

To qualify at the GS- 12 grade level, your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 grade level in the federal sector. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. Examples of specialized experience include performing the following types of tasks on a regular basis.

  • Performing duties as a Second Mate (AGT) or Chief Mate 500(GT) or higher credentialed officer on commercial vessels is required to demonstrate the knowledge skill and ability to fill this position
  • Specializing terminology used in the Mariner Credentialing Program (MCP), knowledge of military ratings and their duties on board ships
  • Ability to relate duties to those performed on merchant ships in order to ensure a fair and equitable application of qualification standards

You must hold or have held a U.S. Merchant Mariner credential in the grade of 2nd Mate, Any Gross Tons (AGT) or Chief Mate, 500 Gross Tons (GT) or higher
