This position is located at Departmental Offices, Office of Economic Policy.
As an Economist (Macroeconomics), you will be you will provide intelligence and research support to senior Treasury officials concerning current and future developments in the U.S. economy that cut across all economic sectors..

Requirements:

You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:

For the GS-14 , you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-13 grade level in the Federal service .
Specialized Experience for this position includes:
- Conducting independent research into questions of economic significance, using advanced statistical and econometric techniques ; AND
-
Publishing independent research in peer-reviewed journal articles, doctoral dissertation chapters, or equivalent publications ; AND
-
Leading analysis, using multiple macroeconomic models and time series models, to assess likely economic implications of policy proposals and/or respond to questions posed by senior management ; AND
-
Presenting results of macroeconomic analysis, both orally and written, to a variety of audiences, including but not limited to senior management, subject matter experts, and educated laypersons ; AND
-
Applying economic research to develop and inform policy options .

For the GS-13 , you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service .
Specialized Experience for this position includes:
- Planning, executing, and completing independent economic research projects by using appropriate theoretical models, statistical techniques, and software packages that would suitable for publication in academic journals; AND
-Compiling and analyzing macro data sets to construct tables or graphs that effectively present key findings for a variety of skilled and educated layperson audiences; AND
-Using macroeconomic models and data collection methods to assess the significance of changes in economic conditions; AND
-Implementing time-series techniques and/or other econometric models to assess potential policy impacts; AND
-Communicating economic analysis and results effectively, both orally and to interagency policy meetings, policy-oriented workshops outside government, or private-sector consulting projects related to the public sector.

For the GS-12 , you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service .
Specialized Experience for this position includes:
-Planning and executing independent economic research projects, using appropriate theoretical models, statistical techniques, or software packages, that would be suitable for publication in academic journals; AND
-Compiling and analyzing macroeconomic data sets to construct tables or graphs that capture key findings; AND
-Using economic models to study questions of applied macroeconomics; AND
-Communicating effectively either orally or written economic analysis and results effectively to supervisors.

OR A related Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree
OR Combination of specialized experience and graduate level education. Only graduate level education in excess of the first 36 semester hours (54 quarter hours) may be combined to be considered for qualifying education.

Candidates who are in the process of completing the requirements for a Ph.D. will be considered for the GS-12 level as long as the requirements for a Ph.D. are completed within 9 months of application.



The experience may have been gained in either the public, private sector or volunteer service . One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis.
