The primary purpose of this position PNEUDRAULIC SYSTEMS MECHANIC LEADER WL-8255-11 , is to lead three or more workers to accomplish trades and/or labor work on a substantially full time and continuing basis. Leader is responsible to both perform the work assigned by a supervisor and ensure that subordinates complete assigned work.

Requirements:

In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C.

QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-8200 Fluid Systems Maintenance Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.


The screen out element for this position is Ability to Lead or Supervise.

JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
  1. Working knowledge of a wide range of principles, processes, and techniques of trade(s) and/or craft(s)
  2. Knowledge of safety regulations, practices, and procedures.
  3. Knowledge of the use and maintenance of tools, equipment, and equipment common to trades and labor work performed by the group being led.
  4. Skill in performing the trade and /or labor work of the group being led.
  5. Ability to lead a team of three or more labor or trade employees.
  6. Ability to plan and organize work assignments to include determining resources required to accomplish mission.



PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Required to and work in awkward or cramped conditions when positioning items in test stands, and to exercise visual and tactile sensitivity in lapping, polishing, adjusting, and aligning items. Frequently handles objects weighing up to 20 pounds and occasionally objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Hoists, lifts, and other workers are available to assist moving heavier items. Required to lift, reach, push, pull, bend, walk, sit, and stand for prolonged periods of time. Required to ascend and descend narrow vertical ladders or staging, often while carrying tools and equipment.


WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is usually performed in areas that are adequately lighted, ventilated, and heated. Frequently exposed to loud noise from the movement of machinery and test equipment; to the possibility of cuts, bums, electrical shock, and bruises from moving parts of machinery; and to unpleasant conditions from dirt, grease, fuel, toxic fumes, solvents, and gases. Various protective devices such as gloves, ear plugs, face shields, safety shoes, and safety glasses are used. The work is frequently performed in cramped areas of aircraft with minimum light and ventilation. Exposed to the possibility of serious injury from slipping and falling while working from ladders and staging. May perform work outside exposing the employee to the prevailing weather conditions and intermittent slippery or uneven surfaces.
