This position is located in the Mission Integration Directorate, Training Division, Law Enforcement Training Branch. The TD provides comprehensive educational instruction and training opportunities to the agency's employees to ensure they are equipped and prepared to accomplish the mission. The primary purpose of this position is to provide oversight and leadership to the Law Enforcement Training Branch. The full performance level of this position is Training Instructor, GS-1712-12.

Requirements:

BASIC REQUIREMENT:

Undergraduate and Graduate Education: Major study -- education or a subject area related to the position to be filled.

OR

Experience that demonstrated a practical knowledge of the subject area of the position and of the methods and techniques of instruction. Examples of qualifying specialized experience include:

  • Teaching or instructing in an adult education program, secondary school, college, military installation, or industrial establishment in the appropriate field(s).
  • Supervising or administering a training program.
  • Development or review of training/course materials, aids, devices, etc., and evaluation of training results.
  • Work in the occupation or subject-matter field of the position to be filled that required training or instructing others on a regular basis.

In order to qualify for this position, you must meet the requirements described below.

You may qualify at the GS-09 level, if you fulfill the following qualification requirement:

Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D., if related which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position.

OR

One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service (experience may have been gained in the private sector) that demonstrates your ability to:

1. Assist in the development of training curriculum.
2. Provide developmental guidance to students.
3. Assist in conducting routine assessments and evaluation of current and evolving training requirements.

OR

Combination of education and experience

You may qualify at the GS-11 level, if you fulfill the following qualification requirement:

Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M., if related which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position.

OR

One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service (experience may have been gained in the private sector) that demonstrates your ability to:

1. Conducting research and needs assessment to develop course and information products.
2. Planning, organizing, and conducts training courses in a variety of law enforcement topics including firearms function and maintenance.
3. Applying law enforcement procedures in the development of course outlines and lesson plan materials.

OR

Combination of education and experience

You may qualify at the GS-12 level, if you fulfill the following qualification requirement:

One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service (experience may have been gained in the private sector) that demonstrates your ability to:

1. Updating and modifying courses and information products as technologies, programs and requirements changes.
2. Providing problem solving assistance designed to improve training and cost effectiveness in the specialty areas.
3. Applying operational law enforcement procedures and practices in order to develop training courses relevant to the field of law enforcement and the methodologies of education.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

ACTIVE DUTY SERVICE MEMBERS: Federal agencies treat active duty service member as veterans, disabled veterans, and preference eligible, when they submit, as part of their application package, a "certification" of active service in lieu of a DD-214, indicating the service member is otherwise eligible and will be discharged or released within 120 days from the date of submission..
