Description:

You will serve as a MAINTENANCE MECHANIC LEADER in the Production Resources Department (Code 900), Production Resources Manager (Code 901), Service Shop (Code 990), of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD.

Requirements:

Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO LEAD OR SUPERVISE
  • Experience interpreting and applying building plans and blueprints; utilizing shop mathematics to plan, compute, and layout projects.
  • Experience using tools and equipment common to the trade; skilled in safety precautions, principals, and work methods associated with a maintenance mechanic; familiarity with ship lines and ship construction nomenclature.
  • Experience providing subordinates with the necessary plans, procedures, blueprints, instructions, tools, etc., to perform their work operations; applying safety precautions, principals, and work methods associated with a maintenance mechanic.
  • Experience utilizing knowledge of the physical exterior and interior configurations of a large variety of submarines and surface ships; maintaining tools and equipment of the trade.
