To be considered for the position, you must meet the following qualification requirements.
Basic Requirements:
Applicants must have one-year specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the next lower grade level. (For positions at GL-4 and above): Positions in this series range widely in type and include support duties to medical or health personnel such as audiologists, speech pathologists, medical officers, and optometrists. Therefore, technician experience is experience that required application of the knowledge, methods, and techniques of the position to be filled.
OR
Education:
Graduate education or an internship meets the specialized experience required at the GL-08 ONLY in those instances where it is directly related to work of the position.
NOTE: Graduate education or an internship meets the specialized experience required above GS-5 only in those instances where it is directly related to the work of the position.
Experience:
Some examples of this qualifying experience are:
- Experience in ensuring safety and sanitation requirements outlined by the Joint Commission, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) are implemented.
- Experience in conducting inspections and on-site surveys of all hospital areas to ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, and procedures relative to hospital housekeeping and infection control principles.
- Experience in conducting training on environmental sanitation and housekeeping.
- Experience in the collection of infectious (contaminated) trash, disposal of needles, sharps and puncture resistant containers.

Combination of Education and Experience:
Equivalent combinations of education and experience are qualifying for all grade levels and positions for which both education and experience are acceptable.
If applicable, credit will be given for paid and unpaid experience. To receive proper credit, you must show the actual time (such as the number of hours worked per week) spent in activities.
