Description:

This position is for a Laundry Machine Operator in the Textile Care Processing Facility (TCPF) of Environmental Management Service and contributes in the processing of textiles for patient care areas within the Medical Center, White City and the Wolf Creek Job Corps. The incumbent will mainly work in the clean area of the TCPF but at times will also work in the soiled area.

EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Related experience includes: ensures washers are used to their loaded capacities; in addition to, making sure that over-loading or under-loading does not occur. Sort soiled linens, pre-soak stained textiles as needed, accurately weigh wash loads to ensure washer/extractors are correctly balanced, wash soiled textiles, and unload clean textiles. In-depth knowledge and care of washroom equipment, chemicals, and procedures such as operation of dryers, pneumatic lift system, weigh carts, ensures proper administration of Oxygenated Bleaches, Laundry Alkalis, Sours, and detergents to guarantee proper soil lift and suspension during wash process; as well as, ensure that proper neutralization occurs. Note : A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Must be capable of lifting loads exceeding 50 pounds. Frequently the employee must bend at the waist repetitively loading and unloading machines. He/she must pull and push heavy loads of wet and dry textiles both in carts and slings frequently weighing over100 pounds. Work requires continuous standing and walking on hard concrete floors. Considerable physical effort is required pulling wet textiles from machines.Work is accomplished inside a building in a hot, humid, noisy environment. The incumbent is exposed to the possibility of bruises. Will be subject to unpleasant odors, soiled and wet textiles, lint, and wet floors. Temperatures in the work area may very from extreme heat in the summer to cold drafts in the winter. Will be exposed to hazardous chemicals.
