The primary purpose of this position is to serve as the organization's primary desktop support technician. Manages all aspects to include planning, acquisition, installation, training, and troubleshooting of hardware and software in support of organizational users. Coordinates with installation, HHQ and commercial IT representatives.

Qualifications:
In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Group Coverage Qualification Standards for Clerical and Administrative Support Positions for the GS-0335, Computer Clerk and Assistant Series. https://www.opm.gov/policy-data-oversight/classification-qualifications/general-schedule-qualification-standards/#url=Group-Standards

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE FOR CURRENT/PREVIOUS FEDERAL EMPLOYEES: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the GS-07 grade level or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes: Applying analytical/diagnostic methods, procedures, and principles to identify system failures and take corrective actions to resume normal operations; utilizing computer equipment, internal computer processes, application/utility programs, and magnetic media; and diagnosing/resolving problems with telecommunications, LAN, and WAN systems to carry out assignments.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE FOR APPLICANTS WITH NO FEDERAL EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the GS-08 grade level or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes: Applying a wide range of analytical/diagnostic methods, procedures, and principles to identify system failures, take corrective actions to resume normal operations, and implement procedures to allow for partial use until problems are resolved; utilizing computer equipment, internal computer processes, application/utility programs, and magnetic media; and diagnosing/resolving problems with telecommunications, LAN, and WAN systems to carry out assignments which may require adaptation of standard procedures and established practices to ensure a positive outcome.

FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in­-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-07 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-09 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
  • Knowledge of automated data processing and networking standards, policies, and techniques.
  • Knowledge of computer hardware and software systems and their interfaces; and higher level programming languages and other job control languages.
  • Knowledge of information processing sequences, controls, and procedures.
  • Knowledge of facility environment and infrastructure to support computer systems, and to provide user support.
  • Ability to use and maintain computer/phone systems, equipment, and software; analyze computer network, software, and hardware problems and develop effective and economical solutions; and train users on new computer systems.
  • Knowledge gained through experience and/or technical schooling in support of information, personnel and physical security programs.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
