Description:

This vacancy is for a GS-2101-12, Marine Transportation Specialist located in the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Coast Guard, NMC MARINER COURSE APPROVALS BRANCH. Duty location will be Martinsburg, West Virginia.

Requirements:

To qualify at the GS- 12 grade level, applicants must have at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 grade level in the federal sector. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work.

Specialized experience must include the following:

  • Performing duties as a Second Mate (AGT) or Chief Mate 500(GT) or higher credentialed officer on commercial vessels is required to demonstrate the knowledge skill and ability to fill this position.
  • Specializing terminology used in the Mariner Credentialing Program (MCP).
  • Knowledge of military ratings and their duties on board ships and ability to relate duties to those performed on merchant ships in order to ensure a fair and equitable application of qualification standards.
NOTE: Education cannot be substituted for experience at this grade level.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

The Office of Personnel management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees.
